Whimsical Valentine Wreath Repurposed Wall Clock

One more last-minute Valentine craft idea that I couldn't resist sharing before the 14th. I'm going to show you how to reuse an old wall clock and turn it into a fun whimsical valentine wreath. It's a unique one-of-a-kind door wreath that is so easy to make.

Repurposed Wall Clock Valentine Wreath

I've had the old broken clock collecting dust on a shelf for years and planned to replace the mechanism one day. Well, that never happened and I didn't have the heart (pun intended) to get rid of it.

While going through my craft bins looking for project inspiration, the idea for this fun clock craft sort of fell into place. First I found foam stickers that I've had for many years and then ribbon with valentine potential and well here we are.

All these elements combined reminded me of Alice In Wonderland and so at long last, the old clock was put to good use in a whimsical kind of way.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of how to make the Wall Clock Valentine Wreath, almost all of the DIY projects shared here at Interior Frugalista have step-by-step tutorials so why not get your budget DIY on and subscribe. The Old Clock Face

After removing the old clock mechanism, I brushed the clock face lightly with dark wax. Then I wiped most of it off with a lint-free rag, making it look like its been aged (sorry, I can't resist) over time.

Next, I painted a 5-inch wood round that I had in my stash with holiday red acrylic craft paint leftover from my holiday crafting.

I also had some small wooden hearts and painted them with white acrylic craft paint that I had on hand.

Patience is not one of my virtues and so to get that paint to dry quickly I used a heat gun set on low. Once the paint was dry, I glued the two painted hearts to the center of the circle with wood glue.

Then I attached two self-adhesive foam gem hearts to the center of each painted heart and moved onto the next step while the glue cured.

Clock Face Typography

Next up, creating the "our love stood the test of time" typography for the center of the clock face.

First I made a graphic in PicMonkey and then used this image transfer technique to add it to the wood round. I've included a printable of the graphic should you want to use it. Just click on the image for the free unwatermarked download.

Go over the transferred typography either with a script liner art brush and black paint or the easy way like I did with a Black Sharpie Paint Pen.

Wired Wreath Embellishments

To add more whimsical charm to the wreath I cut seven pieces of 22-gauge black craft wire about 18-inches long and curled one end by wrapping it around a pencil seven times. Then I attached foam hearts and foam glitter love words onto each wire strand at varying heights with a hot glue gun.

I grouped the embellished wire strands in threes and attached them on either side of the clock handle (pictured below). I kept one aside to incorporate it into the next step.

Whimsical Messy Wreath Bow

Last but not least, I made a messy wreath bow with assorted spools of ribbon that I had in my stash. I combined black & white stripes with a red polka dot, along with a red ruffle, and white satin ribbon.

My preference would have been wired ribbon but I made do with what I had. I'm terrible at making bows so I cheat and use this handy bow maker tool.

I also found a valentine tag in my stash and added it and that extra embellished wire to hang from the bow.
