Easy 5 Minute Autumn Wreath Banner

How to make an easy five-minute autumn wreath banner with mini wooden bunting flags from the dollar store. It's a cute way to add that little extra something to a fall wreath and takes only five minutes at most to make. It added charm to a simple dollar store rope wreath that I made for Fall...ahem...Autumn.

Everything to make the small sunflower wreath can also be found at the dollar store so it's an inexpensive fall decorating idea. Making both the small rope wreath and wood banner took less than ten minutes.

And this was my first attempt at using a woodburning tool. I've got a long way to go to master this tool but I figured I'd start small with simple letters on small balsa wood flags.

Dollar Store Supplies You'll Need To Make It

These are the dollar supplies I used to make it. I think I bought the hot glue gun there too! The sunflowers came five on a stem so I have two left for another fall craft.

Supply List

10-inch Rope Wreath Form
Sunflower Stem
Package Mini Wooden Craft Shapes
Natural Twine
Long Large-Eye Needle
Hot Glue Gun
Small Letter Stencil (optional)
Wood Burning Tool OR Sharpie Marker

Let's get into the nitty-gritty of how easy it is to make the wreath and mini bunting banner.

How To Make An Easy Wood Bunting Wreath Banner

How cute are these tiny wooden flags! I bought this package of mini wooden craft shapes in the spring and glad to finally open the package. They bring different ones out for each season and are such fun to use for seasonal crafting.

Wreath Bunting Banner Wood Flags

Start by writing the letters onto the mini wooden flags either with a small letter stencil like I did or freehand.

Burning the letters onto the wooden flags is totally optional, a brown marker is just fine too. I was itching to use my wood burning tool and figured this would be an easy project to learn on. I used the cone point tip for fine lines, curves, dots, and other fine details.

They recommend that you tape the metal stand that comes with the wood burner down on your work surface and it didn't take long for me to see why. This thing gets hot!

The burned letters aren't perfect and I definitely need more practice but it was fun. Now grab a strand of natural twine and a large-eye needle to string the wooden flags.

If you have mastered the woodburning tool and have any tips, I sure could use all the help I can get. Please and thank you for sharing in the comments below.

Seriously, the wreath took less than five minutes to make with the banner. Snip the sunflowers from their stem with wire cutters and hot glue them to the bottom of the 10-inch rope wreath form.

  1. Marie,
I like any unique wreath and this one made with rope certainly fits the bill. Where did you find the rope wreath form? Or did you wrap it yourself? I've never seen one ready to use. Love the woodburned pennant. Very cute.
