From IKEA Billy Bookcase To Adorable Dollhouse

We bought a fixer-upper, a miniature version! Something I've been wanting to do for at least three years.

A fun project house with lots to do like new windows, doors, flooring, wallpaper, and the list goes on. Barbie and Ken are due to move into their repurposed IKEA Billy bookcase dollhouse sometime within the next year.

Repurposed IKEA Billy Bookcase Dollhouse

It all happened thanks to the inspiration found in Jen Crider's new book, Amazing Furniture Makeovers. I've known Jen for several years and she blogs over at Girl In The Garage.

You may be familiar with her gorgeous furniture makeovers if you've been following our monthly Furniture Fixer Uppers group.

I genuinely love her book and I'm so excited for her. In fact, I have her book on display with my other coffee table books. Her book includes 25 stunning furniture makeovers, each complete with step-by-step tutorials.

If you've been itching to update an old piece of furniture but don't know where to start, then Amazing Furniture Makeovers is for you!

When I flipped the page over to 119 where she repurposed the top of a vintage hutch into a dollhouse, the inspiration for my IKEA Billy Bookcase dollhouse was born.

I mean, look how cute her dollhouse is!

I've been itching to do a dollhouse for many years. Thanks to Jen's book, I'm making that a reality and having such fun. I find it mesmerizing working on dollhouse miniatures.

Instead of a hutch, we found this IKEA Billy bookcase at our local Salvation Army store for $14.99. It is rather plain compared to the lovely curvy details on Jen's hutch but it has so much dollhouse potential.

We removed two shelves and cut them into room divider walls. I love how bright and fresh Jen's dollhouse looks painted white and so I painted mine white as well.

I'm on the hunt for the perfect scrapbook paper for the walls and floors. I'll be referring back to Jen's dollhouse tutorial when it's time to decoupage them on to my dollhouse.

The furniture pictured in ours is temporary as I plan on furnishing the dollhouse with repurposed thrift store finds and DIY projects.

In fact, since this post was written I made a dollhouse fireplace with a realistic flickering flame. I would love for you to follow my dollhouse transformation here on my Dollhouse page.
