Welcoming DIY Spring or Summer Birdhouse Wreath
Do you have a naked front door? Mine has been wreathless since the holidays so this Welcoming Spring or Summer Birdhouse Wreath was long overdue. Wreaths add so much charm and curb appeal to the home plus a door with a wreath just says welcome. The goal for my DIY wreath was that it had to be budget-friendly, made with supplies that I had on hand, and could be made in a jiffy.
I found everything to make my door wreath in my craft bin but most of the supplies were originally purchased at Goodwill and the dollar store. The inspiration for the wreath started with this wooden birdhouse door hanger from Goodwill.
I thought about leaving the door hanger it intact and painting the houses bright whimsical colors. I also thought about decoupaging each birdhouse with floral napkins.
But the DIYer in me decided I could get at least two projects out of this hanger, so the separation began. The other two birdhouses were used for my Nesting Together Sign.
To make the welcome wreath more inviting I strung a mini banner across with small wooden tiles to greet guests when they arrive.
I shopped my home for some of the supplies like these mini roses that I snuck from an apothecary jar of potpourri that I have in the bathroom.
What I love most about this welcome wreath is its farmhouse charm and how easy it was to make.
I have such an affection for birdhouses and nests and use them often in my seasonal vignettes. They take me back to my childhood where my paternal grandfather built an entire birdhouse village in his backyard.
These are the supplies I gathered to make the wreath.
These faux leaves are from the silk roses we used in our daughter's Rustic Wedding Centerpiece Boxes. I simply layered the leaves on just one half of the wreath and attached them with florist wire.
So what do you think?
I hope I've inspired you to grab a few dollar store supplies or better yet, shop your home for supplies, to make a pretty Summer door wreath for your home. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comment section below or the Contact Me tab at the top. I love hearing from you!

So here's how I made the birdhouse wreath
Staining the willow wreath form
I found the willow wreath form at Dollar Tree but wasn't fond of the light color. Using a foam brush and Tobacco Road gel stain, I darkened the wreath.Faux rose stem leaves
My stash of assorted faux greenery goes back probably thirty years and so I'm always happy to thin the collection for DIY craft projects. These faux leaves are from the silk roses we used in our daughter's Rustic Wedding Centerpiece Boxes. I simply layered the leaves on just one half of the wreath and attached them with florist wire.
Painted wooden birdhouse
The birdhouse was painted a warm white and sage green color with paint that I had on hand. To attach the birdhouse to the wreath I screwed a small eye hook onto the back and thread some florist wire through the loop and onto the back of the wreath.Wreath embellishments
The cute feathered bird came in a package of six from Dollarama and the mini grapevine nest was removed from an Easter egg floral pick. That floral pick is the pick that keeps on giving because I snatched a couple more nests for my Farmhouse Spring Nest Decor and used the picks on this 5 Minute DIY Easter Wreath.Welcome wreath banner
The welcome banner is made with wooden tiles leftover from my daughter's DIY Rustic Wedding Card Caddy and simply strung on green twine and tied to the wreath form.So what do you think?

DeleteI love this wreath, Marie. I'm making it. I have a larger willow wreath and bought a birdhouse for $1.50 at Michael's. I have a stash of rose leaves, too, from previous projects. Love the welcome sign. I have some Scrabble tiles which I might use for that. You are quite the genius!
ReplyDeleteYay, so glad you have everything you need to make your own version of the birdhouse wreath. Have fun making yours, Barb and I'd love to see it when your done!
