Rustic Wood Centerpiece Boxes Repurposed For Christmas

Hey friends, these rustic wooden boxes may look familiar? We made several of them for guest table centerpieces for our daughter's wedding. I save everything with the intention of giving it a new purpose. Determined they would not be destined for firewood, they have been turned into repurposed rustic wood centerpiece boxes for Christmas!

Here is the rustic wood centerpiece box again, after being repurposed for the holidays. While made to display during Christmas, they could be used throughout the winter season.

How To Make Rustic Christmas Centerpiece Boxes

Of course, the first thing you'll need to make the rustic Christmas centerpiece boxes is some wooden boxes. I found some readymade rustic wooden box options online if that is your preference. But if you prefer the budget-friendly option of going the handmade route, then see step one below.

Step 1 - Building DIY Rustic Centerpiece Boxes

As mentioned earlier, we originally made our centerpiece boxes for the guest tables at our daughter's wedding. You can find the instructions and supply list for making them in our DIY rustic wooden wedding centerpiece box post.

Step 2 - Repurposed Wood Centerpiece Boxes For Christmas

In order to repurpose the rustic wood centerpiece boxes for Christmas we removed the wedding florals and florist foam from the boxes. To clean the insides we used the air nozzle on our compressor to blow out the stray florist foam particles.

Once clean, the next step was to remove the carbon paper love heart transfers from each box. We dipped a cotton swab in mineral spirits to gently remove the transfer. For the stubborn areas using a sand & rubber eraser removes graphite and carbon paper marks without any smearing.

Step 3 - Wooden Snowflake Embellishments

To add the festive Christmas and/or winter touch to the rustic centerpiece boxes, simply spray-paint wooden snowflakes white, on the front side only. Once dry, attach them to the front of the boxes with clear E6000 glue.

I used four different snowflake patterns for the rustic wood Christmas centerpiece boxes to make each one unique if displayed as a set.

How To Display Rustic Christmas Centerpiece Boxes

Rustic Candleholders - Use the Christmas centerpiece boxes as rustic candleholders like those pictured above. Fill the boxes with glistening faux snow or Epsom salts and set red festive flameless pillar candles on top that are on set and forget timers.

They would be lovely displayed on a window sill or a covered porch during the holidays. Tuck them along a strand of faux evergreen garland with mini lights on a dining sideboard, dining table centerpiece, or fireplace mantle.

Candy Candy Holders - Fill the rustic wood boxes with candy canes or other wrapped seasonal treats for guests to help themselves.

Tabletop Christmas Tree or Poinsettia Stands - My favorite option is to use the rustic wood centerpiece boxes for small poinsettia or tabletop Christmas tree stands like those pictured below.

I'm happy to report that several of our DIY Christmas rustic centerpiece boxes sold at a holiday market. Others were filled with goodies and wrapped in pretty cellophane for hostess gifts.

But I kept the four pictured throughout this post for my own home to display my prelit tabletop trees, as keepsakes from our daughter's wedding.

Here's an idea for a rectangular pallet board centerpiece box for the holidays that you might like. If you have some scrap wood left over from making the rustic wood centerpiece boxes, here's an idea for making large festive outdoor lanterns.

  2. Absolutely love your rustic wood boxes. By using velcro dots, a person could use any decoration on the front and be used for anytime of the year and not just for Christmas.

    1. Thank you Kris, I love how I can put them out pre-Christmas and leave them out until the end of winter. I so wish we didn't have to switch from DST like other provinces in Canada. Wishing you a great new week too! xoxo

    1. Thank you so much Meagan! Yes, there are definitely so many possibilities for what to use them for. Currently I have them displayed with pre-lit tabletop trees on timers and they make me smile every evening when entering the rooms I've placed them in.
