9 Budget-Friendly Ideas For A Rustic Homespun Wedding

Are you planning a rustic country-style wedding and looking for ideas to decorate? If so, then you've come to the right place. I'm sharing 9 budget-friendly ideas for a rustic homespun wedding that you can make for very little money.

When our daughter got married in a beautiful rural setting in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, the goal was to create a rustic, homespun, country-style wedding. It was important to the bride and groom that every detail be handmade with love and would tell a story.

DIY Budget Wedding Decor With Rustic Charm

Their wedding was truly a heartfelt family affair. The outdoor ceremony was held on the groom's father's acreage where he built a lovely rustic wedding arch. The delicious food was prepared by the groom's mother and grandparents.

The pretty whipped lavender chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet cupcakes were made by the groom's sister. All the wedding decor was handmade by our daughter, her maid-of-honor, close friends, Mr. Frugalista, and myself.

Because her wedding was a destination wedding a ten-hour drive from our home, the DIY wedding decor had to be easily transportable by either being collapsible, portable and/or lightweight.

You may want to grab a beverage because this post is heavy on photos! I apologize for the quality of some of the photos.

I had planned on taking photos with my DSLR camera after we finished decorating but ran out of time. Some of the photos are borrowed from those who took photos with their cell phones.

We'll begin the budget-friendly wedding ideas with the rustic 4-tiered wedding cupcake stand.

DIY Rustic 4-Tier Wedding Cupcake Stand

The top tier is made to hold a small wedding cake topper. What makes this wedding cupcake stand unique is that it is portable and can easily be assembled at the venue. Making it perfect for a destination wedding!

The collapsed portable cupcake stand took up very little room in our small vehicle during transport.

We ordered the custom carved love heart birch log wedding cake locally so it didn't need transporting. The fun custom wooden cake topper was ordered on Etsy.

DIY Rustic Wedding Card Box

This one-of-a-kind personalized rustic wedding card box can be made for pennies with scrap wood. It can hold between 80 - 100 cards and has a lid with a card slot. What makes it unique is that it is made to look like an oversized wooden tool caddy.

To add even more country charm, the handle is a repurposed antique chair spindle! I'll show you how easy it is to build and how to personalize it with the bride and groom's name and wedding date.

Rustic Wooden Love Heart Wedding Centerpiece Boxes

The bride and groom wanted their wedding centerpiece florals to be in a rustic-style vessel. So we made rustic wooden love heart wedding centerpiece boxes with fence boards! They are inexpensive and fairly easy to make.

DIY Rustic Wooden Wedding Centerpiece Table Risers

We also made rustic wooden wedding centerpiece table risers as a way to create a visual impact on the long rectangular banquet tables for very little money.

Adorable Bride and Groom Wedding Flower Pots

For the outdoor wedding ceremony, we made these adorable bride and bride-groom flower pots to flank the beginning of the wedding aisle. They are lightweight and can easily be transported to the reception venue afterward.

Wooden Guest Book Tree

Instead of a traditional wedding guest book, we made a framed wooden guest book tree with small wooden heart leaves for guests to sign. After the wedding, we put the plexiglass back on the front so the newlyweds could hang it on a wall in their home.

DIY Wedding Photo Booth

The simple wedding photo booth was a hit and cost next to nothing to make! Made with a sheet of corrugated plastic and a Sharpie marker and suspended from the ceiling with ribbon.

We had a rustic galvanized bucket on the floor filled with fun props from both the dollar store and Party City. It was labeled with their wedding #hashtag so photos could easily be shared in one place for guests and the bride and groom to enjoy.

Homemade Lavender Hard Candy Sucker Guest Favors

Included in the guest favors were homemade lavender-infused hard candy suckers. We found the recipe at Garden Therapy and it was very easy to follow. We used culinary food-grade lavender and dipped each sucker in lavender sugar.

Wedding Reception Candy Bar

For the reception, we set up a candy bar with small galvanized pails with trays purchased at the dollar store. Each bucket was filled with assorted candy in the wedding colors bought in bulk to save on costs.

We also rented a Popcorn Machine and Snow Cone Machine to enjoy during the reception dance. Sadly, I never got pictures of either of those.

I couldn't end this post without a photo of the Bride and Groom or I know I wouldn't hear the end of it from you guys.

Our adorable 16-month old grandson, who had to forego his afternoon nap, decided if my Mom and Dad are getting married then I'm getting married with them!

I know you're going to ask to see the front of our daughter's dress so here is a picture of Mr. Frugalista walking her down the aisle. They had us all crying!

If you look closely at the photo, you can see wet spots all over Mr. Frugalista's vest. No, he wasn't crying that hard, it rained moments before the ceremony.

Literally, as our daughter started walking down the aisle the skies parted and the sun came out for the rest of the day. Call it serendipitous but I say Angel's were among us that afternoon!
