Claw Foot Coffee Table Turned Upholstered Music Bench

Friends, you may remember back in early November I was a vendor at a local holiday market. One of the items I had for sale was this lovely Claw Foot Coffee Table Turned Upholstered Bench. I am happy to report that I could have sold it ten times over and thrilled that it went to a sweet young lady who bought it for a Christmas present to herself in her music room.

I fell in love with the ball and claw feet, especially considering this one has six. It's not often you come across one like this. I don't know if it had a glass top originally but as you can see in the photo below a piece of rough unfinished plywood was being used on the top.

This is what the coffee table looked like before...

I knew as soon as I set eyes on it that I would be repurposing it into an upholstered bench. What I didn't know is that I would find the perfect fabric to turn it into either a piano bench or seating in a music room.

I painted the bench with Dixie Belle Fluff, a pure white mineral chalk paint that has grey undertones. It made all those details pop.

I couldn't decide whether I wanted an aged patina with a dark glaze or a distressed finish. The latter won and I love how all those lovely details pop after being sanded with 220 grit sandpaper, revealing the dark wood underneath.

To protect the finish I used Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax and it certainly lives up to its name.

Isn't this sheet music fabric lovely? I was in the Christmas spirit while getting projects ready for the market and couldn't resist. Unfortunately, I forgot to get the name of the fabric or textile company but for those who may want to purchase it, I bought it at Fabricland (Canadian retailer).

I'm not including a detailed tutorial on how to upholster the bench in this post but I do share step-by-step instructions in my
70's Coffee Table Turned Upholstered Bench post.
My heart melts for furniture with curvy legs, especially ones with claw feet. I would have kept this piece in a heartbeat if we had room for it in our house.
