Birds Of A Feather Cloche Together

I've been very busy with furniture makeovers for our dining room.  I thought I'd share a super easy project with you today that I did while waiting for paint to dry.  How to turn Glass Domes into Cloches by attaching cabinet knobs onto the tops.

How to turn glass domes into cloches

Mr. Frugalista has had these glass domes since I met him in the early 80's. They have moved with us from city-to-city, province-to-province, and everywhere in between. Ironically not once have they seen the light of day. Without bases or knobs they were awkward to use and so with every move they ended up in the back of a cupboard.

Glass Domes Furniture Knobs and E6000 Glue

When I was painting the dining room built-ins a few weeks ago I decided to pull them out of hiding and finally do something with them.  It only took me 30+ years!

Materials List

  • Glass Domes
  • Furniture Knobs
  • Wire Trimmers
  • E6000 Glue

Using wire cutters to remove stems on furniture knobs

Using a pair of sharp Wire Trimmers I cut the post off each knob. I applied a dab of E6000 glue to the back of the knobs and the top of the glass domes. I applied a little pressure to ensure a good bond and let them dry overnight.

Can't get much easier than that!

The hardest part was figuring out what to display under glass.

I went with a bird theme for now but that could change on a weekly basis as I find new things in my stash to display. I'll definitely be changing them up for each season.

For now I'm using a silver tray from our tea service but I just might actually go out and buy proper bases for them.
